Childhood Cancer is the #1 disease killer of our children. It will kill over 2,000
children each year, more than AIDS, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and asthma COMBINED.
Over 40,000 children and adolescents are currently being treated for childhood cancer.
1 out of every 5 of these children will die and 3 out of 5 will suffer from life
altering or life threatening long-term effects. Cure rates have improved dramatically
with research efforts – from less than 10% historically to over 75% today. However,
one child that dies from cancer is one too many. Childhood cancer research is currently
at a critical low. The Children’s Oncology Group (treating more than 90% of children
fighting cancer) has been forced to cut clinical trials due to lack of funding. These
clinical trials are the answer for so many children fighting rare and hard-to-treat
cancers. Clinical trials are what bring research to the child’sbedside and give
them the best chance at a cure. Through an increase in research and clinical trials,
we BELIEVE that more treatments will be found and ultimately a cure will save all
of our children.
